Middle School:
Friday, August 13th:
8am-10am with optional Q&A 10-11am at the Ed Center Room 2302
Monday, August 16th:
1pm-3pm with optional Q&A 3-4pm at the Ed Center Room 1701

Explore the role and practices of an effective Virtual Teacher using features of Apex Middle School Courses and national best practices.  Participants will cover key policies and explore the power of online curriculum to engage students in self-paced and auto-corrected learning.  Discuss strategies to engage learners to support individual academic and SEL needs.  Go hands on to master navigation of the Apex dashboard, menus, and the Help library of resources. Explore how real time data supports your focus on student-centered instruction.

Understand the pedagogy behind ASDV classroom creation, established classroom settings, course scaffolding, and student tools and resources.  Share best local practices for establishing clear learning expectations and encouraging and monitoring student progress. Leverage custom activity creation and embedded communication tools to support each student.

Plan for effective Student Orientations that empower students to “own” their learning via the student dashboard. Seven tips will be shared for engaging below-proficient readers, ELL students, and learners who struggle.

Explore how to keep high school students at the center of your intentional instruction using features within the Apex learning management system. This session will begin with best practices and established procedures for connecting to high school students at a distance.  Go hands on to master navigation of the Apex dashboard, menus, and the Help library of resources. Discuss strategies to go beyond the self-paced and auto-corrected lessons, to high-interest, higher order thinking and collaborative options. Consider seasoned virtual teachers’ tips on using your Profile, Alerts, Custom Activities, and students’ Message Centers and Calendars to engage your learners and encourage their successful progress.  Learn to leverage the power of the Apex Grade Book and Enrollment Detail Reports to uncover patterns of student participation.  Equip yourself with national best practices for academic integrity that cultivate authentic online engagement of students through effective use of classroom data and reports.
